On 22 May 2024 UMCN and Icon Water co-hosted our second Cool Burn event with Wally Bell and Justin Bell, Buru Ngunawal Aboriginal Corporation. Following the success of the 2022 event we were quickly fully subscribed for this year with a wait-list.
The weather was perfect, with everyone very involved in the actual burn. Many found it a meditative experience, with lots of cultural insights, and sharing of information throughout the day.
It was also International Day of Biological Diversity and we were fortunate to have a talk by Dr Ken Hodgkinson about his 17 years of research on biological outcomes of various land management treatments, including fire.
A big thank-you to everyone who took part, including the NSW Rural Fire Service without whom we could not have held the event. Everyone agreed it was a great day.
